Get Shifting offers premium manual car driver training on Sydney's Northern Beaches and surrounding areas. Training is provided in a 2024 Mazda 2 Pure, equipped with the latest safety features and dual controls for peace of mind.  We are passionate about preserving the art of driving a manual vehicle and at the same time creating safe and competent drivers.

single lesson

1hr / 1.5hr / 2hr

$90/hr

  • Meet at your home/school/work
  • The lesson will be tailored to you taking into account your current ability and confidence level
  • Detailed feedback will be provided and recommendations given for what to concentrate on during your own practice driving
  • For your first lesson with us we recommend at least 1.5hr to assess your current skills and build a training plan

test day package


$225

  • Complete pre-test check to ensure you are ready!
  • Use of our car to take your test
  • Pickup/Dropoff 
  • Post-test analysis and tips
  • We require students to have had at least 3 hours of instruction with us before allowing this booking.

Why drive a manual?


Most people learn in an Automatic car and it is becoming harder and harder to buy a new car with a manual gearbox.  So why should you learn to drive a manual?


If cars and driving excite you then driving a manual enhances your driving experience!  You are in full control of which gear you are in, it is up to you to decide that not a computer.  Driving a manual requires more concentration and decision making and the feeling you get when you select the right gear for the situation is hard to explain!  


But there are other great reasons too, like travelling or relocating to the UK or Europe where manual cars are still dominant, often the cheapest option for a rental car is manual.  Maybe you are considering a career as a mechanic or in an industry that may require you to drive different vehicles.  Or maybe you just dream of one day owning that classic car or performance car with a manual gearbox.


The skills required to be a safe driver on our roads are the same regardless of whether your car is automatic, manual or electric.  However, if you never learn to drive a manual you will miss out on a whole world of opportunities to drive vehicles that have a manual gearbox.
